About the Coffee
Cooperativa Granos de Colombia (Coogracol), a producer group in the villages of Charco Negro and Buena Vista in the city of Suaza in the Huila department, was founded in 2013. The producers in this cooperative are constantly striving to improve their farming techniques through best practices. Respect for quality on the part of member farmers combined with ideal environmental conditions has enabled Coogracol to offer consistently high-quality coffees for export and excellent cup profiles.
This washed Huila was milled by Agroeco in Santa Marta, Magdalena. The coffee was fermented in tanks for between 30 - 40 hours and sundried. Lohas Beans exported the coffee to Genuine Origin.
An increasingly rare breed of classic washed Colombias, this washed coffee from the Coogracol growers group offers a nostalgic return to the sensory pleasures Colombia is known for: balance, confident acidity, deep chocolate impulses. In the aroma and cup: dark chocolate, lime zest, magnolia, crisp pear, almond. Acidity is high-toned but not overwrought, while mouthfeel is full, satiny, viscous. The finish is integrated, carrying over all the flavors from the cup in a satisfying resonance.
With 16 coffee-producing regions along three mountain ranges and two harvests each year, Colombia always has fresh coffee. The South American origin also has access to both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, which is a unique blessing for shipping logistics. However, the country’s year-round production is facing a pile-up of problems brought on by both climate change and the pandemic. Read more in our Colombia Green Coffee Origin Report
