Narino Ecoterra Organic
Our Narino Ecoterra Organic comes from Ecoterra, an association of 122 smallholders with an average farm size of 2 hectares. The coffee was grown in San Pedro de Cartego in the Narino department using organic farming practices. The lot includes Caturra, Colombia, Castillo, Geisha, Pink, Red and Yellow Bourbon varietals.
Ripe red cherries were washed and fermented in tanks for between 30 – 40 hours. After the washing process the coffee was sun dried on patios and, finally, exported by Lohas Beans.
Lohas Beans has worked with Terra Coffee since 2015. The initiative was created to source highly specialized coffees from small producers. In 2020 they formed Ecoterra an association of 122 farming families located in the north of Nariño.
Coffee farming is the main source of income for the smallholders of Ecoterra and they were proud to earn their organic certification this year (they are now pursuing Fair Trade Certification). Through these certifications the Ecoterra member farmers hope to achieve better economic conditions for their families and improve their environment through organic agricultural practices.
