Cubulco is a newer coffee-producing region. Coffee is planted on the steep slopes of the Chuacus mountain range at altitudes of 1,600 to 1,900 meters ASL. The weather is temperate to cold at these altitudes, and rainfall is plentiful, allowing for the slow maturation of cherries. Farmers in the area used to plant corn and beans but began to search for products that could help them earn better incomes. Coffee was the answer. Coffee production grew steadily, and farmers were quick to utilize our Farmer Support Organization (FSO) in the region and have improve their productivity, quality and resource management. Most of the farm work in this area is done by family members.
