Dorothy Njeri Gitau is a retired primary school teacher and the owner of Mung'ethu Estate. The name Mung’ethu was extracted from the gikuyu word kung’ethia, meaning “from nothing”. Although the family is now relatively well off, they wanted subsequent generations to understand the poverty, they endured. Therefore, they chose the name Mung’ethu.
Mung'ethu is located on Kigumo Ridge in Kiambu County. The farm enjoys ideal coffee-growing conditions: it is over 1800 masl; it is on the the Komothai river and has red volcanic soil that is rich in organic matter.
Dorothy has been a Volcafe Way farmer since 2017. The estate has averaged 16 bags (x 60 kgs) per year or a productivity of 12.3 bags per hectare. She is also engaged in commercial rearing of dairy cows and growing of crops like maize and beans for subsistence purposes.
