Roughly 540 smallholder farmers deliver red cherry to Konyu factory, one of 11 factories comprising Kabare Farmers Co-operative Society, and named after the nearby river Konyu which is used in the processing of the cherry. This late crop coffee was grown in Kirinyaga County on the southern slopes of the ice peaked Mount Kenya in red volcanic soil rich in organic matter at 1700 meteres above sea level.
