Comayagua is the most productive and diverse of Honduras’ 15 coffee producing regions. This bountiful growing region is home to coffee farms with practically every possible microclimate, and this Guama Danta lot is just one example of the nuanced and complex options coming out of this multifarious region.
Many farmers in Comayagua contributed to this coffee, and they all go above and beyond to hone their agricultural practices. As true community leaders, they employ their keen business sense for the benefit of their people, supporting each other along every step of the journey from farm to market.
Alfonso Ramos, one of our Guama Danta producers, has been cultivating coffee since the 1960s. He shares his wealth of expertise with farmers in remote areas of Comayagua to help them access the market and negotiate fair prices for their work. How is coffee graded in Honduras?
The coffee grading system in Honduras is based on the altitude at which the coffee was grown. Strictly High Grown (SHG) Honduras green coffee was grown at 1,350masl or above. High Grown (HG) Honduras green coffee was grown between 1,200 to 1,350masl, and Central Standard coffee from Honduras was grown below 1,200masl.
Another classification for coffee quality in Honduras is European Process or EP. Through meticulous hand-sorting coffees can earn the EP designation which signifies that there are no more than four defects per 1,000 coffee beans.
Honduras Green Coffee
