Ngomano Coffee Factory

The Ngomano Coffee Factory is located in Machakos, a county with a rich heritage, fertile agricultural land, and the first capital city of Kenya before the capital was moved to Nairobi in 1899. At around 1,700-1,800masl, the red volcanic soil here supplies nutrition to mango, avocado, and maize crops, in addition to coffee.

The bright acidity of this coffee comes with a medium body, rounding out a juicy cup of tropical fruit with lemon and lime flavors and cacao nib finish.

Kenya Green Coffee Beans

Kenya green coffee beans are celebrated for bold, fruit-forward flavors that pack a punch in complex acidity. SL-28 and SL-34 are two of the most well-known varietals grown here, developed by Scott Agricultural Laboratories in the 1930s for drought resistance, exceptional cup quality, and large yield at high altitudes. After a coffee berry disease (CBD) epidemic in 1968, the CBD-immune Ruiru-11 varietal was developed and quickly adopted throughout the country.

Kenya coffee production has upheld quality and consistency throughout the years with detail-oriented management at the washing stations. Over 600,000 smallholder farmers around the country are organized into Farmer Cooperative Societies (FCS) that oversee traceability and quality control for its membership body.

Kenya Coffee Processing

Farmers in the Ngomano Coffee Factory are smallholders with around 0.5-2 hectares of coffee farmland per family. They bring their harvested cherries to the factory for washed processing, sorting for defects and ripeness before de-pulping on the same day. The pulped parchment coffee is dry-fermented in mucilage for 24-48 hours before washing and additional sorting, then laid out to dry on raised beds.
