Washed Organic Copan Coffee from Honduras

Cafés Finos de Corquín (CAFICO) is a family-run business in Copán driven by their motivation to bring high-quality Honduras coffee to a diverse, international market. Their comprehensive approach to coffee production leverages the exceptional skill sets of multi-generational producers who also specialize in agronomy, social and environmental programs, Q-grading, marketing, and processing.

In addition to their commitment to producing 100% certified coffees across 3,000 hectares of farmland, CAFICO’s wet mill operates with water recycling systems, reducing water usage by 80% and diverting post-production pulpy water to their organic fertilizer plant. Coffee is dried via solar dryers and mechanical dryers that run on coffee parchment byproducts as a fuel source.

CAFICO’s powerhouse optimizes high-quality Honduran coffee production under the pledge to offer the cleanest coffee on the planet, grown without the use of contaminants, with additional efforts to bolster agroforestry and social welfare for their community in Copán.

How is High Quality Coffee Graded in Honduras?

The coffee grading system in Honduras is based on the altitude at which the coffee was grown. Strictly High Grown (SHG) Honduras green coffee was grown at 1,350 masl or above. High Grown (HG) Honduras green coffee was grown between 1,200 to 1,350masl, and Central Standard coffee from Honduras was grown below 1,200 masl.

Another classification for coffee quality in Honduras is European Process or EP. Through meticulous hand-sorting, coffees can earn the EP designation, which signifies that there are no more than four defects per 1,000 coffee beans.

Honduras Green Coffee

Coffee plays a crucial role in Honduras' economy, with over 102,000 families involved in its production across 210 municipalities in 15 of the country's 18 departments. In 2024, coffee accounted for 30% of agricultural GDP, generating more jobs and foreign exchange than any other industry. However, according to the USDA, the 2023/24 harvest is projected at 5.5 million bags, a 24% decline due to coffee rust, labor shortages, and price volatility. To boost output, the Honduran government is investing in fertilizers, credit, technology, infrastructure, scholarships, and genetic research. Learn more in our Honduras Green Coffee Origin Report.
