Peru Organic Jaén G1 Washed 2025
Jaén Organic G1 Washed
Sourced by Valley Coffee Trading from the highlands of Jaén in northern Peru, this Grade 1 organic washed green coffee reflects the biodiversity and rich agricultural heritage of the region. Jaén’s mountainous terrain and extensive forests create a unique coffee origin, with altitudes ranging from 500 to 3,000 masl and microclimates that foster exceptional cup quality. The surrounding rivers—Marañón, Tabaconas, and Huabal—support fertile soils, while the region’s Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status underscores its reputation for producing some of the best Peruvian green coffee beans.
Peru Green Coffee & Jaén’s Coffee Landscape
Jaén is a hub for smallholder cooperatives that focus on high-quality, traceable coffees. The region’s lush ecosystems are home to diverse wildlife, including endangered species like the Andean bear, mountain tapir, yellow-tailed woolly monkey, and Andean lapwing. This balance of coffee farming and environmental stewardship is central to the identity of Peru green coffee from Jaén.
Washed Processing
This lot undergoes traditional washed processing to showcase its bright, clean flavor profile. Ripe cherries are selectively picked, pulped, and fermented to remove mucilage before a thorough washing and sun-drying. This meticulous method preserves clarity in the cup, highlighting the natural sweetness and vibrant acidity prized in Peruvian green coffee beans.
Organic Coffee Production in Peru
Peru is one of the world’s leading producers of certified organic coffee, with farmers in Jaén using sustainable practices that respect the land and local biodiversity. Organic farming here involves composting, manual weeding, shade management, and the use of natural pest control methods—ensuring that each bag of organic unroasted coffee delivers both exceptional flavor and a commitment to environmental health.
Peru Green Coffee Beans
Peru is the world’s 5th largest producer of Arabica coffee and it is gaining in popularity. The thin air, soaring altitudes, and fertile soil throughout Peru come together to form a breathtaking environment where coffee thrives. But sharing a border with the largest coffee-producing nation in the world is not easy. While Brazil’s efficiency and price points are unmatched, Peru finds its footing in differentiation and variety, making every harvest something to look forward to.
